    Speaker: Kiera Hill

Kiera Hill is a certified sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers and lives in Norfolk, Virginia. She has spent 17 years in the wine industry- retail and restaurants, and has been teaching wine classes and developing wine education programs every chance she gets.

Diagnosed early with EGA (Empty Glass Anxiety) and MCS (Middle Child Syndrome), her passion is bringing people together over wine! She doesn't believe in the elitist culture of wine, but welcomes all to her Tribe of wine lovers.

Kiera started Vino Culture to focus exclusively on empowering people’s palates. What began as an events business, Vino Culture pivoted  into a retail delivery business due to COVID. The brick and mortar retail shop opened Labor Day Weekend of 2021, just shy of the 3 year anniversary of Vino Culture's inception.

The store is located on Granby Street  right in the heart of Downtown Norfolk and is a true neighborhood wine shop! All Kiera's selections feature boutique producers from eclectic regions. While her selections change frequently, she is always happy to special order your favorite wine just for you.

Kiera’s vision is to empower individuals to make their own decisions about wine by teaching them how to taste like sommeliers, and learn why each wine is unique. She guarantees you will leave her classes and events informed and excited to share your newfound knowledge with others.

If she isn't in the shop, you'll most likely find Kiera in the gym powerlifting or at the beach on her paddle board... but she's most likely in the shop!

    Presenters:

Tricia Batson, LASEVA, Chip Nunley, Hunton  , Brian Slaughter, MichieHamlett

    Tricia Batson:

Tricia Batson is the Director of the Pro Bono & Private Attorney Involvement Program at Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia (Legal Aid). Tricia started practicing law with Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia as a Staff Attorney in Norfolk and then as a staff attorney and managing attorney in the Hampton/Newport News office. For several years following, the military moved Tricia’s family outside of the Hampton Roads area where she continued to serve in numerous volunteer roles as well as a contributing author for Leading Practice Profiles for the Association of Corporate Counsel. She returned to the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia in 2020.

Tricia has served in numerous volunteer roles throughout her local communities and is active in several Hampton Roads Bar Associations.  She received her undergraduate degree in Economics from DePauw University and her juris doctor degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

    Chip Nunley:

Chip’s practice focuses on representing clients before State and Federal Courts in complex civil litigation, and before the Virginia State Corporation Commission in regulatory matters. Chip practices in the firm's Richmond office. He has over 30 years’ experience representing individuals and small, medium and large-sized companies in State and Federal Courts in Virginia and across the country. He has handled cases involving environmental contamination, aircraft product liability, consumer products product liability, commercial disputes arising from contracts and leases, and business tort claims. Chip has also handled litigated matters, including rate cases and large-asset purchase applications, before the Virginia State Corporation Commission.

Chip is admitted to practice in the US District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and the US Courts of Appeals for the Second and Fourth Circuits.

    Brian Slaughter:

Bryan is a partner at MichieHamlett, where he has dedicated his career to representing clients who have suffered a life-altering catastrophic personal injury or the wrongful death of a loved one. If Bryan decides to take on a case, his client’s cause becomes his own. He knows that in a blink of an eye, their lives have been shattered and they are struggling to adjust to a new reality.

Bryan approaches each case with a focus on integrity and trust, offering victims and families of victims hope under incredibly difficult circumstances. His clients recognize immediately that they have a strong advocate on their side to represent them against the large, faceless corporations with seemingly endless resources.

Bryan is also a passionate advocate for equal access to justice, dedicating a significant portion of his time to pro-bono activities. He was the driving force behind the formation of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Bar Association’s formal pro bono program, forming the strategic plan and raising money for administration. As president of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, he also led the development of a pro bono strategic plan. Bryan currently serves on the Supreme Court of Virginia’s Access to Justice Commission and on the boards for both the Legal Aid Justice Center and the Virginia Poverty Law Center. He is also a past president of both the ReadyKids Board of Directors and the Charlottesville Ronald McDonald House.
